Self-Service Analytics Webinar

I recently hosted a Self-Service Analytics Webinar for Capax Global.

This is not a typical take on Self-Service analytics that you might have seen before.  I think I have a unique take on the topic.  I don't go into a lot of technical implementation HOW-TOs, but I do cover a lot of best practices.

The webinar specifically addresses:

  • why data projects traditionally have failed
  • how we can fix the process by using more modern approaches (NOT scrum/agile/kanban either)
  • what are the anti-patterns to failure and simple patterns that drive to success faster
  • how to ingest (ETL,ELT) data faster using more modern approaches
  • how to use data lake thinking to solve the T problem of ETL

These are topics I've been dealing with for years.  I'm currently writing FOSS software to address many of these issues so I hope to dive deeper into that tooling soon.

I'll be presenting So You Want to Be a Data Scientist at Philly.NET's September Meeting at Microsoft's Malvern office.

Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM (EST)

Microsoft Corporation
45 Liberty Blvd
Malvern, PA 19355

So You Want to Be a Data Scientist?

Does R seem like an alien language to you? Does data science terminology seem overly confusing? Would you like to learn more about data science but are scared of the math? Fact is, you’re probably doing “data science” today. You don’t need to know a lot of R or python to be an effective data scientist. We’ll cover important terminology and use cases and then dive-in by exploring data with tools you are already using. We’ll deploy a modern data science workstation in just 10 minutes. Finally, we’ll put it all together and create a predictive web service using Azure Machine Learning.

Presenter

Dave Wentzel is a Data Solution Architect for Microsoft. He works with customers integrating structured and unstructured data, whether on-premises or in the cloud.

Practical DevOps Using Azure DevTest Labs

Azure DevTest Labs is a great way to solve common development environment challenges. Self-service deployment can be done quickly AND cost-effectively. By using templates, artifacts, and “formulas” you can deploy the latest version of your application, whether Windows or Linux. This is great for development, testing, training, demos, and even lightweight DR environments. We’ll show you how to get started with DevTest Labs regardless of whether you use Visual Studio.
