Static Methods

A static method is a method available in the given class, rather than as an object.  Programmatically that means you can't use dot notation, instead you use notation similar to

[class]::staticmethod()

example:  the compare method is a static.

What is really interesting in the above example is that the CompareTo() method does basically the same thing as Compare, but is not a static so can use dot notation (as well as autocomplete using Tab).
